A Marriage Visitor visa allows an applicant to register marriage in the UK with a citizen or a legal resident of the country, or with someone who stays in the UK without an official residence permit (for example, stays in the UK on a student visa).
After marriage, an applicant must leave the UK, as a Marriage Visitor visa does not assume residence in the UK.

Fiance visa
A Marriage Visitor visa is valid for 6 months, during which an applicant must legally get married in the UK. To apply for a spouse visa after that, an applicant must return to his country of residence, for example, to the Russian Federation.
Who can apply for a Marriage Visitor visa ?
- Applicants over 18 years of age
- Applicants who are planning to marry in the UK within 6 months of the visa start date and then return to their country of residence
Processing time
The processing time for a Marriage Visitor visa is about 6 weeks.
Please note that a priority service is temporarily not available for those applying from the Russian Federation, and the process now takes longer (from 3 months).
General requirements
Before applying for a Marriage Visitor visa, an applicant must check that he meets the general Home Office requirements listed below.
To apply for a Visitor Visa, you must:
– Have and be able to provide all general documents (please refer to the Documents section below on this page)
– Prove that an applicant is planning to leave the UK within 6 months upon arrival
– Have enough money for the trip, including the cost of the return ticket
– Prove that an applicant and his sponsor are planning to get married in the UK within 6 months from the visa start date
How long can I stay in the UK on a Marriage Visitor visa ?
A Marriage Visitor visa is issued for a period of 6 months, during which an applicant must get married and then return to his country of residence. An application for a Spouse visa must be submitted from the country of residence, for example, from the Russian Federation.
Financial Requirements
The Home Office does not have any specific requirements for the amount of money required to apply for a Visitor Visa.
However, the amount must be realistic for a trip of 6 months, including the cost of the return ticket.
The entire amount must be deposited into a bank account, since it can be problematic to prove cash savings.
An applicant’s future husband can fully or partially sponsor the trip. In this case, it is necessary to provide documents confirming the source and amount of his income.

General Documents for a Marriage Visitor Visa Application
Please note that there is no standard package of documents for a Visitor visa.
A list of documents is created individually for each case.
1. A visa application form (in English)
2. An applicant’s foreign passport (must be valid until the expiry date of the visa and have at least 2 blank pages)
3. An applicant’s Russian national passport
4. Letter from the employer confirming the position, monthly income and the start date of work
5. Bank statements from an applicant for the last 6 months, showing the movement of funds and the receipt of salary
6. Documents confirming the intention of an applicant and his sponsor to get married in the UK within 6 months from the visa start date
7. If an applicant has a sponsor – a scan of the sponsor’s passport
8. A cover letter from the sponsor
9. Documents confirming the source and amount of the sponsor’s income
10. Documents to prove the relationship between an applicant and his future husband is genuine
11. Certificates of divorce, birth certificates of minor children (if any)
If an applicant has children under the age of 18 he wants to take to the UK, they must get Visa for children

In brief history:
We applied for a visa on 25.04 (biometrics) from Riga
I left my passport in my hands
I received a letter confirming the visa on 11.10 (the decision was made on 4.10)
Because of the illness of my husband's parents, I decided to fly to him for a month, and it was decided that if we got a visa, I would send the passport from England.
We contacted some transportation companies, they refused to take the passport. Royal Mail accepted the parcel, but at German customs my passport was detained for lack of declaration. It took six weeks for the letter to travel back.
Then I sent it by DHL, but customs again asked for a TLS Contact tax number, which I could not provide. The letter went back to me for another 2 weeks.
Anyway, I flew to Berlin, and as an exception, I had my visa pasted in 2 hours. I received my passport the same day.
I'm flying to England tomorrow, back home.
